WE WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT DOGS AND CATS

The Rural City of Murray Bridge is reviewing its Dog and Cat Management Plan. Based on an initial round of community and stakeholder engagement, a draft plan has been developed - we want to know if you think we have got it right!

The Plan will guide how the Council approaches the management of dogs and cats over the next five years. Please note that it will only relate to the Council’s management of dogs and cats as required by the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995 (the Act).

View the Draft Animal Management Plan 2020-2025 here.

You can have your say by completing the Feedback Form below.

All responses received will be collated and summarised for consideration by the Council. The feedback will help finalise the goals, strategies and actions which will apply to animal management over the next five years.

BACKGROUND TO THE PLAN

Every Council in South Australia is required to prepare an Animal Management Plan (applicable to dogs and cats). The Act sets out the following requirements for the Plan:

(1) A plan of management must include provisions for parks where dogs can be exercised off-leash and for parks where dogs must be under effective control by means of physical restrain, and may include provision for parks where dogs are prohibited

(2) A plan of management must cover 5 year periods and each plan must be prepared and presented to the Board at least 6 months before it is to take effective.

(3); A plan of management must be approved by the Dog and Cat Management Board before it takes effect.

(4) A Council may, with the approval of the Board, amend a plan of management at any time during the course of the 5 year period covered by the plan.
