Background

Anerley Road is a typical residential street providing direct road access to 12 private residencies and indirect access to a further four homes. In addition, the Resthaven Aged Care Facility utilises Anerley Road as a secondary or rear access and more importantly for overflow staff parking.

As a minor residential street, Anerley Road has a kerb to kerb pavement width of only 6.5 metres. This width is less than most typical residential addresses and is more aligned with the width of a rear lane (night cart lane). As such, any parking along Anerley Road restricts traffic flow considerably. Should two vehicles park opposite to each other, traffic flow can be prevented altogether, in particular for larger passenger vehicles and trucks.

This matter becomes even more problematic due to the 90 degree bend in Anerley Road that makes it impossible for motorists to see potential restrictions that may be around the corner. Service trucks in particular find it very difficult to reverse along a tight residential street that on most days has vehicles parked on both sides.

Proposal

A simple and cost effective solution to this traffic management problem is to prevent parking on one side of Anerley Road. In implementing such a solution it opens up the carriage way while still providing some on street parking for residents and Resthaven Aged Care overflow.

The proposal will involve the installation of several “No Parking” signs and a solid yellow line along one side of Anerley Road to prevent parking. The proposed side of the road for ‘No Parking’ is indicated overleaf and was selected due to some existing ‘No Parking’ on that side of the road. ‘No Parking’ could also be located on the other side of the road.

Addtionally a time restriction may also be an option necessary to limit long term parking and encourage residents to park in their driveways rather than on the street.

Why is Council Asking my Opinion?

Council considered the traffic management options available to assist in the management of traffic along Anerley Road and resolved to engage with the residents of Anerley Road and beyond at it’s meeting on 11 July 2016.

It’s now time to have your say on the proposed parking restrictions on Anerley Road.

The results of the survey will be collated and a further report will be presented to Council with a recommendation on this issue.

We Value your Feedback

Council values your comments regarding the proposed traffic solution and asks that you complete the survey online.

Your comments can be provided by email to council@murraybridge.sa.gov.au or printed copies of the survey can be found in the Document Library and sent via post to PO Box 421, Murray Bridge SA 5253.
