The Rural City of Murray Bridge is inviting community feedback on a revised Community Land Management Plan (CLMP), following further review and amendment in response to feedback received during a previous public consultation process.
The draft Conservation and Natural Reserves CLMP and the draft Wetlands, River and Lake Frontage Reserves CLMP were among 11 draft plans consulted on earlier this year. Following a Council meeting held on 13 April 2026 and community feedback, the two draft plans have been reviewed, updated and a draft consolidated plan is now being released for public consultation.
Community land is held for the benefit of the community and is intended to remain in Council ownership or care for its designated purpose. Under the Act, councils are required to prepare and adopt CLMPs for land that is developed or occupied under a lease or licence. These plans must be developed in consultation with the community and can only be amended or revoked following further public consultation unless changes are considered minor.
Feedback on the two draft plans received during consultation suggested there may be value in consolidating plans covering land with similar uses and management values. Community feedback also highlighted opportunities to review and strengthen the performance targets and measures included in the plans.
In response to this feedback, Council Administration reviewed both plans and has combined them into a single Conservation and Wetlands Community Land Management Plan. The performance targets and measures have also been reviewed and updated.
The land included within the new consolidated plan is similar in nature and management requirements, providing a more streamlined and consistent approach to management.
Key features of the revised plan include:
- A consistent structure and clearer, simpler language
- Consolidation of land with similar uses and management objectives
- Alignment with current legislation and Council policies
- Updated performance targets and measures
- Greater transparency around land use and management
A CLMP helps ensure:
- The land is protected for public benefit
- The purpose of the land is clearly defined
- Any leases or licences are transparent
- The community has input before major decisions are made
- There is an additional statutory step before Council can dispose of land
Council is now inviting feedback on the draft Conservation and Wetlands Community Land Management Plan.
Paper copies of the survey can also be found at the Local Government Centre and the Murray Bridge Library.
