BURIAL practices in Murray Bridge are set to become much simpler under a proposal to amalgamate several polices into one clear and easy to navigate document.

The Rural City of Murray Bridge is seeking feedback on its proposed Interment Cemetery and Memorials Policy and accompanying Management Guideline.

Manager City Assets Sue Reynolds said the new Policy was an amalgamation of what was previously three separate policies: the Cemetery Operating Policy, Memorial Policy and Interments on Private Land Policy.

“This is about simplifying the process, cutting unnecessary red tape and making a time that requires compassion and understanding as easy to navigate as possible,” she said.

“I would invite anyone who is interested to take this opportunity to review the proposed policy and guideline, and provide feedback on ways to improve interment practices.”

The Policy outlines the Council’s commitment to ensuring the dignity and respect of the deceased is honoured, and that community members and visitors have a place and opportunity to remember loved ones.

The Guideline provides more detail regarding the Council’s four cemeteries, burials, cremated remains, memorials, monuments, headstones, plaques, tributes, records, leases and interment on private land processes.

The Interment Cemetery and Memorials Policy and Interment Cemetery and Management Guideline are available for viewing in the Documents Library to the right of this page, at the Local Government Centre and the Murray Bridge Library.

Please read the documents and provide feedback via the survey below.

The consultation closes 3pm Friday 12 August 2022.
