THE COMMUNITY is being asked to provide feedback on a Murray Bridge RSL Sub Branch licence proposal to hold ANZAC and Remembrance Day Services at Sturt Reserve for the next ten years. Council is asking for community feedback on an agreement that would allow the RSL (Returned Services League) to hold ANZAC and Remembrance Day services at the Murray Bridge War Memorial, in the History and Tourism Precinct.
A proposed ANZAC Day Memorial Service on Tuesday 25 April at Sturt Reserve, if the agreement passes, would be the first major event to be held at the reserve since events were put on hold due to Murray River high flows at the beginning of December.
The proposed licence and community consultation are part of a legislative requirement to ensure community members were happy with the use of community facilities. The purpose built Murray Bridge War Memorial at Sturt Reserve received a great deal of positive community feedback during consultation before it was built and we understand people are proud of this achievement. However, it is part of our legislative requirements to consult with the community about exclusive use of community assets, such as a prominent part of our parkland in this case, to ensure people are happy with the way it’s being used. Consultations like this help Council understand how the community feels about important issues.
