The Strategic Plan has been developed to reflect what our community told us they wanted during the extensive engagement undertaken earlier in the year.

Throughout August and September community members across the region engaged in conversations and shared ideas. The community focus areas were discussed and prioritised.

Opportunities were provided for the community to present at community meetings and gatherings, in person with council representatives, at local events as well as a survey.

Some of the proposed initiatives include:

  • establishing an active riverfront at Sturt Reserve that provides opportunities for accommodation, recreation, tourism and water activities
  • continuing the beautifying of our city and township entrances
  • supporting our local business to be resilient and innovative
  • programs that encourage leadership, active citizenship and volunteerism

We listened, we drafted a plan for the next four years to reflect your responses and we want to check: did we get it right?

The Rural City of Murray Bridge has concluded the first round of consultation in preparation of the Draft Strategic Plan 2020 – 2024. The last weekend of community consultation was a highlight for the team as they attended the Murray Bridge Show handing out almost three hundred bunyip badges to show goers on the Bunyip Trail and had great conversations with others.

Community participation exceeded Councils’ expectations with great turn outs to community meetings, informal and special events. The RCMB online consultation page ‘Let’s Talk’ also provided an opportunity for those unable to attend in person to submit their feedback.

Community members across the region engaged in conversations and shared ideas. The community focus areas; economic development, activate the river, improve services, maintain country lifestyle, activities for youth and community pride and identity; were discussed and prioritised. Opportunities were also provided for the community to present ideas and future aspirations. Council staff and Elected Members were in attendance at the meetings.

The compilation of ideas, priorities and feedback are currently being analysed in readiness for presentation to Elected Members and inclusion into the Draft Strategic Plan 2020- 2024. The draft is proposed to be presented to Council in December for approval to commence a second round of consultation with the community late this year and leading into early next year.

The draft document will be developed to incorporate the priorities and aspirations from the community consultation process. Council encourages the community to review the draft document once available and give feedback prior to completion of the second phase of consultation in late February.

Popular ideas raised during the community consultation included a family friendly New Year’s Eve event and the return of the successful ‘Splash’ event at Sturt Reserve. We are pleased to announce ‘Splash’ will return in 2020 bigger and better starting off with bang at the New Year’s Eve celebration on 31 December. Other notable comments related to community recreation and facilities, accommodation, events and tourist attraction, boat ramps and improved access to the river, improved trails and open space, improved transportation and community leadership.

One great outcome inspired by the public support in their community, Mypolonga has commenced the reformation of the Mypolonga Progress Association to ignite action on ideas that came out of the meetings.
