Consultation has concluded.

The Council and Murray Bridge Returned Serviceman's League (RSL) have been working together on a proposal for a War Memorial at Sturt Reserve to commemorate people lost in conflict and the sacrifice that the armed forces have made, and continue to make, to ensure the security of Australia.

A design has been developed for a memorial to be located at Wharf Hill within the History and Tourism Precinct of Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge.
There are two main design elements:
* The War Memorial - see attachment 1
* The War Memorial surrounds and setting - see attachment 2

The design was guided by the following principles:
* Consistency with the Sturt Reserve Master Plan - see attachment 3 Concept Plan
* The creation of a place for quiet contemplation when not in use for formal commemoration
* Connectivity and accessibility for veterans
* No loss of trees.

The proposed design is consistent with Council's Sturt Reserve Master Plan and will enable the continuation of ANZAC Day Dawn Services, and other commemorations, at Sturt Reserve.

The cost of the War Memorial work is estimated at $393,000.
The Council and RSL were advised by Federal MP Tony Pasin that the Commonwealth Government would make a significant contribution to the delivery of this project.
The Council has currently committed $50,000 towards the project.

Before progressing any further with the project Council would like to hear the views of the community.
Please view the design documents in the library to the right of this page and provide feedback via the form below.

Hard copies are also available at:
* the Local Government Centre, 2 Seventh Street, Murray Bridge and
* the Murray Bridge Library, Murray Bridge Marketplace, level 2, 51 South Terrace, Murray Bridge.

Consultation closes Friday 14 June 2019.
